CRESTS AND PRIVATE LABELS - WHY DON`T YOU SHOW WHO YOU ARE?
In ancient days, when only a few were able to read and write, coats of arms and crests or house labels have been the only chance to point out to specific or prominent persons. They therefore used the speech of symbols. A very nice example is the crest of the family Büttner. On the blazon a pair of barrel makers cramps are shown which points out to the profession of a barrel maker. "Büttner" is the old German word for barrel maker. Besides there is an oak leaf shown which refers to the type of wood which was used, oak wood of coarse. Oak leaf cluster is also shown in the crest above the helmet. Everyone knew how to read these symbols an dso it was very clear that the holder of the crest must be a "Büttner". According to our opinion, coats of arms do even today have their authorization. A very nice example is the house label of the family Weckenmann, which was desigened lately. View now a few coats of arms and family crests from our workshop:
